Your systems stay. Intelligence goes on top. Agents do the work. A human decides. That is the whole journey: four steps, from the software you already run to agents that do real work on it.
Step 1 — Traditional software
Your systems of record — mainframe, AS400, ERP, CRM — run the business, and they stay. They hold the data, the rules, and the history that no new system can replace overnight. Modernising does not mean throwing them away; it means building on top of what already works.
Step 2 — The Cloud Adoption Framework
On-prem is where you were; the Cloud Adoption Framework is how you move. Start with strategy and a plan, then build a landing zone — platform subscriptions for shared services, workload subscriptions for applications — with policy, identity, and cost inherited by every workload. Then migrate: assess, move, modernise, or retire — not just lift-and-shift. The governed cloud foundation is what makes the next steps safe.
Step 3 — The intelligence layer
On that governed cloud, add the intelligence layer: GenAI, machine learning, deep learning, NLP, and OCR, with Azure AI services connected through APIs and governed data pipelines. Your data becomes searchable, readable, and usable — documents, images, and records that people used to read by hand can now be searched and summarised, and the answers cite their sources.
Step 4 — Agentic AI and autonomous agents
Agents plan multi-step work, call tools, check their own results, and draft the action. They run end-to-end workflows on their own, within limits a human set — governed identity, approvals, audit, and cost caps. And a human still approves the consequential decision. That is the point of the whole journey: autonomy with accountability, on the systems you already run.
